Training

Our training started late November 2009 and is going well with a mixture of sports to aid the cycling and general fitness:

  • John a.k.a The JC does a mixture of sports from boxing training, indoor climbing, and of course Off road cycling too.
  • Dave a.k.a The Old Man like John does indoor climbing and trains from home doing a mixture of body weight and resistance training which now includes road cycling (obviously) to put the miles down required and build that all important cardio.

Dave has spent the last 18 months reading all the fitness magazines, guides and websites under the sun to find out the best overall nutrition depending on the type of training you want to do.

You see you can read this fad diet to the next but after a while (and a lot of reading) the principles remain generally the same. There’s a general pattern to these things i.e lean meats plenty of veg, and water and cut out all the Junk food. It may sound obvious but it’s hard to give up things you like.

We all like treats from time to time and in the Fad diet world these are known as “Sins” or “cheat days” but even the best athletes have cheat days, just only 1 of them a week.

Training for an event like this is only 40% of it; if your diet isn’t right (and it has to be a new way of life) then all that effort will go out the window as those in the know will tell you. It’s the time that you rest between sessions when your body changes and reaps the rewards of all your hard earned efforts.
